Interesting Site

This is an interesting site. It maps the world according to subject of interest.

Say you want to know the size of Malaysia, Canada or US in terms of wealth. The territories would be changed accordingly. It appears that Malaysia’s territory is slightly bigger (based on GDP wealth).

Valley of The Wolves

I just saw an amazing movie. The title of the movie is ‘Valley of the Wolves’. It is, unabashedly, a political movie that showcase the Turks as good hearted and honourable people as oppose to the Americans who are seen as corrupt, insensitive, arrogant and uncouth. Basically the Americans are incorrigible buffoons whilst the Turks are honourable personas.

But beside its overt favouritism, the movie is at the moment one of the few movies(benefit of doubt here) out there about Iraq. It paints the suffering of people in Iraq and also showcase the atrocities in Iraq(be it under Saddam or what is currently being done under the self styled liberators) by focussing on the administrator whose name is Sam Marshall ( Probably a personification of Saddam and what is going on right now).

The hero or should I say heroes and a heroine are a group of Turkish special forces and one Iraqy chick (if she is iraqi). The bad news…the chick dies (unfortunate event as she’s pretty good looking). The good news..well the Turks Special Ops defeat the American task force under Sam Marshall.

Well like I said, the movie paints a rosy picture of the Turkish people. But if you want to see a movie about Iraq, this is it. I’ll give it a rating of 7 our of 10 simply because this is a commendable movie.

A new Twist to pornography

Yeah…juicy title eh….well it’s with regard to a message in Friendster which I received..not once but twice. Both are from the same person despite trying hard to change her name in the subject. Well basically her modus operandi is this, she sets up an account in friendster telling you that shes interested in making friends with you but ask you to go to a site so that she can make friends with you via webcam….yeah…bells should be ringing LOUD and CLEAR by now. Well the image on her first page is not that provocative..well depends on your definition of provocative, I’ve seen worse on movies which mind you, tries to claim nudity as an ‘art’.

Anyway so as not to leave things to your imaginative devices…I closed the page and went surfing as usual. I ofcourse deleted her e-mail but let’s see if she is persistent. On a side….it is a novel approach of trying to get some poor soul in wasting his money to see you undress but hey what ever works for people. Some people either have a misguided sense of worth and thus try to seek fame via this way others do it just for the sake of fun. I’m not going to be the moral police here all I can say is do what ever makes you happy. As for me…please don’t send me such stuff….I can see all that and more from the movies(blockbuster movies not porno movies that you ahem ‘rent’ from the internet are usually not censored although most movies now are decent for family view..remember Species…boy that was pornography massaged into a Sci-Fi film). Anyway..I like to believe that I have life than pleasuring myself infront of a 15 in screen.

Any of you guys and gals received this message in friendster?

Handshake…Apparently it can bring you to loftier heights.

Handshake….when I was younger, I used to have a firm handshake. I did it because I wanted people to look at me as a responsible young man and not dismiss me just because of my youth. So I started practising it among people that I know. Like whenever I say high I’d just extend my hand to shake. I would then grip the hand firmly and shake it. The first few times were not really poised…but later I sort of perfected it. These days, I do it but not regularly. Most people now are content with a softly softly handshake. I used to not discriminate when I hand shake. Guy or girl, they will get the unmistakable Suresh Jeyaverasingam handshake. So much so that people associated a firm handshake with me one time. Remember, I started this because people including my relatives were not taking me seriously. Now it’s starting to change but I doubt its because of my handshake…I think it got to do more with my illustrious age. You see…according to people I’ve obtained the illustrious key of life…yeah…the mythical grandeur and so called significance of reaching 21 years of age.

When I was young, when ever I talk people sort of tune off. So I only talked when its necessary. And then people ask me why I’m quiet! Go Figure! But no, I’m not complaining because people are not listening to me. I’m actually glad it turned out that way because it allowed me to analyse people and their behaviour. NOt that I love doing personality analisis but when you’re not taken seriously..what do you do…well either you mope about it or you learn from it. I decided to do the latter. Quietness has its moments you know. Sometimes it is nice to just be alone even when you’re surrounded by people you know. And ofcourse sometimes, it’s frustrating not to be able to converse with people. Ah…BunnyWuny what you mentioned in one of your posts about trying to get closer with the ‘elites’ of the school is so true. I did try too at one time and yeah it was an exercise in futility. Perhaps they think that they’re too good for me well I like to think it this way…Perhaps those guys are not my ‘class’. Hey..If arrogance can be in them..why can’t it be in me. And I’ve found tons of worthy people to be friends with. Like the guy who may seem to be a misfit because of the way he dress or the way he goes against authority(I was a prefect that time) turned out to be a person worth knowing. He tells it the way it is and ofcourse sort of mellowed when he too got to know me better. Ahh…yeah some good moments did arise from my secondary school days although generally my experience in secondary school was not something I like.

Ohh and the post about the handshake. You can find it here. Very interesting piece but honestly I think that guy went over the top. Either its an American thing to exaggerate or he really has a ‘divine’ gift.

I’m rich!! Or Am I?

I just received an e-mail today from one Saudi Arabian aide to the former King Fahd. You seriously got to admire their tenacity of trying to fleece some unsuspecting people.

Read them below:

RE: MESSAGE FROM SAUDI ARABIA

Hello,

Forgive my indignation if this message comes to you as a
surprise and may offend your personality for contacting you
without your prior consent and writing through this
channel.I got your contact from a proffesional database
found in internet while searching for a reliable and honest
person that will be an annointed steward in a vision very
dear to me.

I am Mr.Omer Yavuz a personal treasurer to late monarch
Fahd ibn Abdul Aziz al-Saud of Saudi Arabia. He was
believed to be 82. King Fahd was in poor health for years,
and suffered a stroke in 1995. Under King Fahd’s rule,
Saudi Arabia came into enormous wealth from its vast oil
reserves, making it a major player on the international
stage. King Fahd was a great king, and served very well the
interests of the Arab and Muslim world, so we feel his
loss,” he said. “At the same time, we feel Saudi Arabia
will continue to be at the forefront of Arab and Muslim
action in the field of development and organization, and
also in the field of defending Arab rights and causes.”

Please endeavour to look up this wed site for more details

Been his close confidant, he has entrusted some Document
partaining to funds which he has with a finance company
Abroad worth US23.5 Million Dollars for investment
purposes.
Haven worked for the late monarch for years l now seize
this opprotunity to ask for your partnership to formalize
this transaction.

YOUR ROLE:

All I need from you is to stand as the beneficiary of the
Above quoted Sum and I will re-profile the funds with your
name, which will enable the security company release the
funds to you. We can work out moderlities of percentages
due to you upon the receipt of your consent and all
document that will empower you to act would be given to you
including a copy of my international pass port details. The
transaction has to be Concluded in 2 week. As Soon as I
confirm your readiness to conclude the transaction with
me, I will provide you with the details.

Thank you very much.

Regards,

Omer Yavuz (Mr.)

Not bad huh….but ofcourse we know that the above e-mail is fake! It’s done in the same aspect as the Nigerian 419 scam. The only difference is that instead of some African General, now we have a very revered King’s name that is sullied.

First and foremost, King Fahd is a very rich man. And being from a monarchy that basically controls Saudi Arabia, it would be foolish of this person to seize wealth of the great King. Perhaps the treasurer may know somethings that we don’t but in this day of age….who needs a treasurer. You may need a Fund Manager or a Treasury Official but you don’t …I repeat don’t use the term treasurer per se.

And if you see the above e-mail, he praised the king highly but then went on to say that I can get a piece of his highness’s wealth by doing certain ’service’ to him, which we now know as transferring his funds..ostensibly to an offshore bank account.

Got to admire the creativity of certain people. Really I do. And then the person went on to provide news links. The news links if you were to check are from the American Government sponsored Voice of America. I guess the poor soul who wrote that thought that by linking to a government news source, people would believe what he is writing.

oh Well…I guess it’s no longer Nigerian 419 scam but it is now(perhaps in future) known as Arabian Scam. If this goes longer I think it would be more fascinating that the Arabian Nights. Perhaps women in those sexy clothes riding camels would be a feature of the new 1001 Arabian Nights who would also be trapping scam prone people into their nefarios scam clutches.

School! Yay! And other tots

Believe me, I’m not out of my mind nor do I have to tighten the screws in my head even more tighter. I’m glad that school would be starting soon. I kept myself pretty busy the last two weeks by watching movies. Welll okay, it’s not much but at least I got myself entertained. The time it took to download the movies were not entertaining though. I remembered that I was so bored that whenever the download bar progresses, I cheered. Yup, that was how slow my internet connection was or how bored I was. Whichever way you chose to see it, I was in boreville.

There are legal sites that you can download movies from you know. In addition to using peer to peer networks you could just head to AtomFilms , IFilms and a new one which I recently discovered, Crave entertainment. You could search for all of those in google. I’ll find out a way to put links to those sites from on this post later on.

To transfer or not ?
I’m still contemplating whether to transfer my blog from Friendster to here. I thought my so called friends would read or post comments but most of them don’t. And ofcourse the fact that Friendster only allows its members to post comments. Really unfortunate for the public as I the only reason I got to blog was to share my musings or ramblings with other people and also use it as a platform to encourage discussion on sensitive issues.

Do we care?
I mean is it apathy that we so called adults are having. Are we not concerned about the going ons(politically and socially) in our country and / or in our lives. I know many people who would just think of themselves and help themselves without regard to other people. They would put a pretention about helping others only if the victim oops ‘friend’ has something to give them. Happened to me before, so I guess I’m quite wary of making new friends. One thing I’ve learned is that when a person promises to help you, don’t count on it. He has to show it. Thank goodness I’ve been able to help myself so far. I tried a couple of times to ask so called friends to help but they did not help. So being self sufficient is important. I don’t have to rely on other people and it feels good to be able to do things on your own.

On matters regarding girl…
I’ve thought about it a couple of times. I mean where ever I look, there’s always a couple walking by. They seem to be oblivious to other people, basking in each other’s company. Appreciating the moment that they share. It’s pretty uncomfortable when you realise that you’re the only one who doesn’t have a girlfriend. You knew why you were here, in a foreign land to study. You have to work hard so that you can graduate early and do something useful that would reduce your parent’s financial burden. You want to believe that you have the world at your feet. But slowly niggling things starts creeping up from the aforementioned matters of the heart to things like finding a job. I kind of like it the current way. I mean there are thousands of things I would like things to be different but being single has its merits. I can concentrate better in my studies. I don’t have to worry about the other person and can do what I please. I can spend money for myself instead of wasting money on buying gifts for her birthday. Don’t have to remember countless of unnecessary dates just to show that I care about her. For instance, I just spent CAD 5 to buy a simple birthday cake for myself. I mean nothing beats having your family to spend your birthday but being in a foreign land, I guess this is some semblance of home. I also tend to keep myself busy if given the chance as there’s nothing much to do here in this place. The entertainment that is existent here are pubs or to the movies. They’re not worthy places to hang out as TGV back home is a much better place to just lepak.

Well, I’m not looking for a girlfriend as I’m not ready for the emotional fallout. It’s not just because I’m shy. I would attribute it to the emotional thingy. In the words of Mr Fantastic in the recent ‘Fantastic Four’, “There are to many variables”. Indeed there are.

So…
I’m in the age where I’m looking forward to what I can achieve in my life. I don’t really know where I’m going. I have plans and I want to execute them but I don’t know how. Insecurities are there and I just want to confront them. I’m awed but at the same time eager for the challenge. There are many new things in life that awaits me. I want to experience them, good or bad.
